Fort HealthCare and Blackhawk Senior Apartments Offer Stepping On ProgramThursday, April 5, 2012
Fort HealthCare and Blackhawk Senior Apartments have teamed up to provide Stepping On, a fall prevention program for seniors. Seniors 65 and older, who have had a fall, are fearful of falling or are living in their own home or apartment are encouraged to attend.
The goal of this workshop is to help participants identify why they fall and different ways of prevention including strength and balance exercises, home safety suggestions and a medication review. “For older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury and hospital admissions,” stated Lee Clay, RN and workshop instructor. “With more than one-third of seniors falling each year, our goal is to help build confidence and teach seniors to be safe within their homes and out in the community.”
The eight-week session begins Thursday, April 19 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Blackhawk Senior Apartments and is $10 per participant. Participants will also receive a home visit and a three-month reunion class. Space is limited and registrations are based on a first-come, first-served basis. For questions or to register by phone, call (920) 568-5244. Visit FortHealthCare.com/Classes to register online.
