Audiologist Lori Fish Earns Doctorate Degree

Thursday, June 6, 2013

FORT ATKINSON – Lori Fish, Au.D., audiologist with Fort HealthCare Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists, has earned a doctorate degree in Audiology, the highest level of training available, after completing all required examinations and clinical studies. This high level of certification offers assurance to the public that the audiologist treating them has achieved the highest recognition of competency in the profession.

Dr. Fish attended the commencement ceremony for the Doctoral of Audiology Program at the A.T. Still University – Arizona School of Health Sciences in Mesa, Arizona on August 4, 2012. On that day, the university graduated 56 doctoral students in Audiology.  Dr. Fish attended the ceremony with her family. As part of the coursework, she studied such topics as real ear measurements, oto-acoustic emissions, neuro-anatomy and physiology of the human brain and auditory system, central auditory processing, ethics, tinnitus, auditory rehabilitation and advanced hearing aid technology, and more.

Dr. Fish states, “The field of Audiology has changed much since I earned my Masters degree in 1991, not the least of which is that the minimum degree required for any graduate to practice in this field today is now a doctorate. When that change occurred, existing providers like me (a Masters Level Audiologist) were granted the opportunity to earn their doctorate in on-line programs through distance learning.”

Dr. Fish continues, “The distance learning was such a blessing, because it allowed me to earn
my degree while still working full time and taking care of my family. My wonderful husband, James, and our children, Evan and Emma, have been so supportive this entire time. I could not have done any of it without them.”

Dr. Fish started her career with David Rowe, MD, an otolaryngologist with Fort HealthCare Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists, in his private practice until 2003, when they both joined Fort Healthcare. Dr. Fish works alongside Dr. Rowe, along with his fellow otolaryngologists, Michael Anderson, MD and William Hofmann, MD.

Dr. Fish has served Fort Atkinson and the surrounding communities for over 20 years. She states, “I feel honored to have served countless people of all ages, including many veterans, with the gift of better hearing. I look forward to many more years of continuing to do so.”

Audiology is the practice of caring for hearing, balance and related disorders. Dr. Fish uses the latest technology and hearing tests to determine the type and degree, if any, of hearing loss. She can assist with providing customized hearing protection, individualized hearing aid fitting, hearing aid repairs and more with offices in Fort Atkinson and Whitewater. Dr. Fish always offers free hearing screenings by appointment to adults 18 and over. Visit FortHealthCare.com/Audiology to learn more, or call (920) 563-6667 for an appointment.
