Camp 911 Joined by Over 70 Campers!

Fort HealthCare's Camp 911 was filled to capacity for the first session held in 2014. On Tuesday, June 17 over 70 campers participated in the day filled with activities and learning related to safety, prevention, and health and wellness.

Collaborating agencies with Fort HealthCare included H&H Fire, Whitewater Fire Department, the Jefferson County K-9 Unit, Fort Atkinson Police Department, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Ryan Brothers Ambulance, a Jefferson County 911 Dispatcher, and UW Medflight.

Campers learned about fire safety, being safe at home, and water and outdoor safety. Campers also enjoyed interactive experiences throughout the day as they practiced calling 911 and talking to a dispatcher.Other activities included hands-on experiences such as using a  fire extinguisher simulator; how to safely exit a burning building in the Watertown Kiwanis portable smoke house. Campers practiced safe ways to rescue a person who is drowning and learned hands-only CPR.

Campers exercised throughout the day on Fort HealthCare’s Railyard Obstacle Course and competed in team relay races. Additional activities included being able to watch Medflight land & take off, talking to the pilot, registered nurse, and physician from Medflight. Campers learned about healthy eating from a registered dietician.

In addition to Fort HealthCare, Camp 911 was sponsored by generous donations from Tomorrow’s Hope, Nasco, Kutz Dairy LLC, Fredrick Farms, A&W, and Wetzel Builders LLC. A second session of Camp 911 will be held on Wednesday, August 13th. Kids who will be entering 4th-6th grade are eligible to participate.
