AHA Advance Cardiovascular Life Support Renewal Course

ACLS is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies.  This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, and paramedics, as well as others who need and ACLS course completion card for job or other requirements.

AHA Heartsaver CPR/AED

This is an ideal opportunity to learn infant (0-12 months old), child (1-8 years old) and adult (8-plus years) CPR and how to use automated external defibrillation. The class is for anyone who wants to learn CPR skills for all age victims and for responders to cardiac emergencies in the workplace or community (such as fitness staff, day care providers, police). An American Heart Association card is issued upon successful completion of the course and is valid for two years. Registration includes student manual.

AHA Heartsaver Family & Friends CPR

This program offers individuals the opportunity to learn adult/child CPR and adult/child choking intervention to aid a family member or close friend in case of emergency. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. This is not a course for certification (usually needed for the workplace).  You'll recieve a card stating you participated in the AHA Family & Friends Course. Registration includes student manual.

Basic ECG Class

Designed for healthcare staff (RN, LPN, ECG techs, etc) and motivated students who want to learn the basic ECG skills of measuring, recognizing, and interpreting simple cardiac rhythms. Motivated healthcare students also welcome. Topics include who should be on a monitor & why, correct lead placement, and troubleshooting poor tracings. Recognition of ectopic beats, bundle branch blocks, and ST changes is covered along with 14 common rhythms. Class instructional methods include lecture, case studies, simulation, workbook practice and 1:1 assistance if needed. Class fee includes American Heart Association ECG/Pharmocology workbook and ECG caliper.

**NOTE** Withdrawls or cancellations less than 14 days prior to class will be charged a $25 fee**

This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. The course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR for adult, child, and infant, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.  The Recognition class is for those who have never taken the BLS for Healthcare Provider course or those who have allowed their certification to lapse. A renewal course is required every two years to remain current.  Certifications are good to the end of the month in which they expire.  

The Recognition Course is a pre-requisite course for the new EMT Basic or for those who have allowed their BLS certification to expire. A student manual is included in the registration fee.

Brother, Sister: Sibling-to-Be

Big brothers- and sisters-to-be tour the birthing center, see a newborn baby and learn to help in the daily care of the new arrival. Children must be 3 or older to take the class. Class materials are provided by the Fort Atkinson Kiwanis Club. Parental attendance is mandatory. Please only register the child's/children's name.

Critical Care Classes

These classes are inteded for new critical care (such as ICU, ED, CCU) nurses or experienced nurses in the community hospital setting. The classes provide an in-depth study of commonly seen critical care issues, arranged by body system.  Lecture, simulation, role playing, open discussion, and case studies are used to increase critical thinking when caring for potentially unstable patients.

Each body system class is offered twice per year.  You can enroll by class or you may enroll for all courses at once. To sign up for individual classes please sign up in that section. Movin' and Losin'

This 10-week weight-management program is designed specifically for families (with children ages 8 - 15 years old) who are looking for ways to incorporate healthier eating and fitness habits into their everyday lifestyle. Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Heidi Jennrich and Occupational Therapist, Alyssa Maurer, will cover a different topic each week related to diet and exercise and each class will include a family activity utilizing Fort HealthCare's new Railyard fitness equipment.  Railyard Fitness is an indoor, portable, obstacle course that has received rave reviews from physical education, athletic conditioning, personal training and institutional fitness experts worldwide.  There are only two in Wisconsin and one is right here in your backyard!

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - Renewal Course

This classroom, video-based, Instructor-led course uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics. The goal of the Pediatric Advanced Life Support Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.

The Renewal course is for those who need to renew their current certification. A student manual is included in the registration price.
